This is a theoretical course which is implemented by a separate practical clinical course which runs throughout the academic year

Course objectives are:

·                  Endorsing the theoretical knowledge of students

·                  Achieving a thorough understanding of interceptive orthodontic measures that could be dealt with by general dental practitioners

·                  Understanding the various types and features of malocclusions encountered in orthodontics

·                  Accomplish proper treatment methods for malocclusions normally encountered in orthodontics

·                  Constitute proper appliance design for respective malocclusions

·                  Providing detailed description and guidelines to orthodontic topics relevant to future clinical practice

·                  Understand the basics of the aetiology and the management of unerupted maxillary permanent canines.

·                  Appreciating the importance of stability after orthodontic treatment and learning the various methods of retention

·                  Understand principles of interdisciplinary treatment including cases which involve orthodontic-restorative and orthodontic-o periodontal management.

·                  Understanding the proper orthodontic management of cleft lip and palate patients.

·                  Introducing orthodontic aspects of orthognathic surgery

·                  Understand the main benefits and risks of orthodontic treatment.​
